About Asperger Ireland
(This site is under rapid
construction for Asperger Ireland, the inclusive organisation dedicated to
representing the rights and needs of all those who's lives are affected by
Asperger Syndrome in Ireland.)
What is Asperger
Syndrome?
We want to give you the best,
most accurate description of Asperger Syndrome we could find, so we have decided
to link to the Wikipedia Article on the subject. The Article is, at all
time watched by several dedicated editors, some of whom are Aspies, or have
special knowledge of Asperger Syndrome, others of whom simply pay scrupulous
attention to proper sourcing. We do not believe you will find a more accurate,
up to date, description anywhere, and if you do find an error or omission, we
hope you will edit the article to amend it.
Feel free to use our temporary
bulletin board while we get the work done around here. 3
rules for now:
- Every person who uses that board
is your equal, treat them as such
- No offensive or threatening
language
- No SPAM
We hope that, as adults, we will
NEVER need to add to that list.

Comhairle / DFI Study - The Housing
and Accommodation Needs of People with Disabilities
Experiences and Perspectives
http://www.disability-federation.ie/news_2.htm
Comhairle and DFI have undertaken a joint study on the housing and
accommodation needs of people with disabilities. Throughout 2005 / 2006 the DFI
Housing Sub Group highlighted the need for this study to be undertaken. The
ongoing and emerging difficulties experienced by people with disabilities
seeking appropriate accommodation have consistently been identified by CICs, DFI
member organisations and other NGOs.
The study is focusing on the actual experiences of people with disabilities
(including children and young people) – people with mental health difficulties,
people with intellectual disabilities, people with physical/sensory
disabilities, people with an acquired brain injury - in relation to accessing
appropriate accommodation and community supports necessary for independent
living.
Comhairle will be happy to accept and include any submissions on this topic made
to:
The Housing and Accommodation Needs of People with Disabilities
Michael Brown,
Citizen's Information Board,
Hume House,
Ballsbridge.

Remember, that unless you speak up for yourself and assert your needs and
experiences, whether as a person with Asperger Syndrome, or as the Parent or
Spouse of a Person with Asperger Syndrome your needs and experiences with not be
taken into account in this study. Worse, others (Who knows? Even me?) may be
perceived as having spoken on your behalf, and they may express totally
different needs and experiences to yours.
Would you trust Asperger Ireland to speak on your behalf, without even knowing
you?
Because I wouldn't, so PLEASE speak up for yourself on this important issue.
